Река в Азии
Евфрат – река в Турции, Сирии и Ираке, самая крупная в Западной Азии.
Длина Евфрата составляет 2780 км.
Площадь бассейна Евфрата – 765 тыс. км².
Главные притоки Евфрата: Тохма (правый), Гёксу (правый), Белих (левый), Хабур (левый).
Исток Евфрата находится в горах Армянского нагорья. В верховьях река имеет четко выраженный горный характер. В среднем течении характер более спокойный.
Глубины здесь составляют в среднем десять метров, а ширина в среднем течении колеблется от 150 до 500 метров.
Сливаясь с рекой Тигр, Евфрат образует реку Шаттэль и впадает в Персидский залив.
Основное снегово-дождевое питание Евфрат получает в верхнем течении. В среднем течении и низовье питание в основном дождевое.
Бассейн является домом для водных и неводных птиц, млекопитающих, насекомых и амфибий. Особо выделяются басрская камышевка, иракская выдра, малый баклан, месопотамская песчанка и европейская выдра.
На большей части верхнего бассейна произрастают кустарники и некоторые виды деревьев, например дубы, но вблизи сирийско-иракской границы ландшафт меняется на пастбища, состоящие из невысоких растений и кустарников, таких как полынь и травы. По берегам растут кустарники, камыши и некоторые виды водных растений.
